How to Use Images in Email Footers

I was just asked, for the I-don’t-know-how-many-eth time, how I put images in my email footer, which looks like this and automatically appears on every email I send out:

So I thought I’d add it here as an “A Few Things I Hope Will be Helpful to Authors.”
Mind you, the person who asked this time is my designer friend, Camilla Olson (who, yes, is the one who designs Ginger’s clothes in The Four Ms. Bradwells, even though there it was spelled “Kamilla” – which was what she was planning to use when I wrote the novel, and yes, her designs are gorgeous and comfortable). I use my book jacket jpegs, but you can use any image you like.
It’s very easy to do in Gmail:
1. Click on the little settings gear on your mail page. It looks like this:

2. Select “settings”
3. Scroll down to “Signature”
4. Click on the little mountainy icon, which looks like this:

5. Fill the URL for the place where your image lives online into the box, and hit enter. It will drop into your signature.
6. It will likely be too large, but you will then see in the signature box a choice to resize it. I recommend small, as you want to be discreet here, you don’t want to be shouting at everyone you email.
7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “save changes.”
Yes, it’s that easy. If you don’t want it to appear in a particular email, you can just delete it in the email. If you have more than one gmail account, you will have to do it for each account, using the drop-down menu at “Signature.”
Sorry, but I have no idea how to do it in any other mail program. – Meg
